After the world successfully lunched the the turbo jet airplanes and successfully used them in Korean war, quckly appeared ideas about the supersonic jets. And leading companies put a lot efforts to move forward in increasing the speed of passenger airplanes.
The coming of jet engines in aviation was so fast and easy that engineers have an image that next supersonic airplanes will be built quickly. And soon come to be operate by airline companies.
However, in that time the people was sure about quickly conquering the moon and Mars, while some project was developed the intergalactic flights.
Three major aircraft corporations in the world that time competing for the building supersonic jet Airplanes. The Tupolev(USSR), Airbus(France) and Boing from US.
The winner was only one The British-French concorde. Whose operation flights lasted till 2003. Mainly between Paris, london and New york.
Compare the soviet competitor everything was perfect. The airplane was realible and comfortable. The price for ticket was more then 30 times more then on the regular flight, but the feeling that you flight faster then sound costed that.
The only one problem wasn't with the airplane - it was with the speed of sound(The sonic boom irritated the habitants on the land). That's why the service was operated regulaly only over Atlantic ocean.
The catastrophe in 2000, that killed all passengers and crew suspended the flights, but they were resumed.In 2001(terror attack), the next problem for all airlines. One more disaster- the rising price for fuel(2003)- finaly stopped the flights.
It seems that it's not technology problems that stopped the flights, but the chain of casual accidents, include the 2000 fatal crush. But the decision to cancel the flights was very firm. Even the groups of enthusiast can't resume the flights.
But for now we can see the dozen of startups which try to build their supersonic jet for regular flights.
First point that 50 years ago the supersonic jets was created by big airplanes manufacturers - now by small companies. Of course they cooperate with big companies, but the question - If the big companies failed in the past ,why people who invest in them believe that now the small companies can?
More interesting question is money. They promise to built the supersonic jet for more price and time that existing concorde. Of course in the modern world now much more people who ready to pay for ticket on the supersonic jet, then 20 years ago. But the thing is obvious the resume concorde flights si much faster and cheaper then any of this projects. They all have the same approaches that was before - to make the supersonic jet just with new design. No new materials were invented, no new economic engine, no solution to eleminate the sonic boom.
As we more far from the last comercial flight the more desire more people have to resume supersonic flights.
The answer on all of this I guess following from the question. If they don't do airplanes, otherwise what they will do?
