In a 2009 crisis General motors declared a bankruptcies, now in covid-19 era, when most of people in the world thinking about where to find money for food, don't even declare that they have big problems.
All of them continue producing cars and sales, even there is now no any necessity in new cars in the world. You can always buy an old one or repair your existing ones.
The world decline of car sales was just over 20% in february (With expextation of 10 % to the end of the year, that's normal even in year without any problems) , a people still have money for autos and don't afraid any future problems that can decrease income in nearests months. Only some, not all, autocompanies decrease there producing. That's already happen with them in normal situation in passed years.

Now you can rent any car you like, but the Automakers still want you to buy this distingish privelege. Competivines aslo exists why not , but now we have a small amount autopmakers in the world and only five countries(four before came china) Who's automaker shine on the world arena.
In 2002 they gathered on private meetig and make an aggreement don't make any more cars for all human life. Design and produce cars usable only for 5-7 years in aim to make customers buy cars as often as possible. (That's joke spreading over internet as customers can't forces automakers return to reliable cars). The autoproducers became more big creating aliances in aim to reduce costs and have more influence on there goverments.
But goverments also in great opposition to them, demanding switch it's technologies to environmental friendly. Europe want to forbid internal combustion engine from 2040(It's just threat, no worries) in aim to cut CO2 emissions. Automakers resist as much as possible, because just they like combustion engine cars. Engines sounds good sound, it's vibrating, make people relaxing while they drivng.
All of them also hate driveless technologies, because if you don't rule you car what can you rule more in your life? Your wife if exists, your can rule her(espessially in Europe and america), or your children or stuff. But a lot of people don't rule anything. For a lot of them a car is the best friend they can spend with it a lot time on the road in garage, parking listen it's heart(combustion engine), wash , repair and disscuss technical properties.
The electric car deprive customers from all of this, driverless make you useless as a driver, sharing car can kill a privelege to buy social status. What customers and Automakers will do if all goals of declared by greens unions and progressive ingeneers will achived? The world will be green, calm and clean but very boring.
A lot of people will do uselless job or don't do any job at all. The automakers now have big problems to find somrthing new they can implement in new model(most of all last electronic and software innovations was already invented in the bunch of computer games).
The modern world will change our relations between humans , but will this pandemic change autoindustriya?
